...And start getting hammered out the side of the connecting rod, you know it’s bad. “new” used bearing couldn’t save the engine, it started knocking within 5 minutes again, so “new” used engine it is!

Earliere silver-top zetec from an escort, engine has been used for race duty for something like 3-4 years by now.... It’s due for a new bottom end surely!

Upcoming race, didn’t have a spare bottom-end sitting around to move the head onto or other plans, and the bearings were from a block with corrosion in the cylinder walls, so it was a “try and it just might work”.
It didn’t.

My bearings did that! But everything turned out okay!
Which is great, because new used engine was not a viable option.
